This is a Will written by an individual to document their wishes, and how they would like their estate to be treated when they pass away. You can write a Single Will if you are in a relationship, married or in a civil partnership.
If you are married, or in a civil partnership or relationship you may wish to make both Wills. A Double Will is the simplest way to do this, and is discounted from a standard will.
As part of our on-going support to our clients we offer a Will storage facility.
You can retrieve your will at any point to review it, amend it or destroy it.
A person who has 'parental responsibility' for a child can appoint a guardian for their child in their Will or separate document. They might, for example, make decisions about the child's education, medical treatment or where the child lives.
A Letter of Wishes is a document that accompanies your Will. It is not legally binding but can guide your trustees to ensure your personal wishes are carried out.
Lasting power of attorney ( LPA ) is a legal document that lets you (the 'donor') appoint one or more people (known as 'attorneys') to help you make decisions or to make decisions on your behalf. You must be 18 or over and have mental capacity (the ability to make your own decisions) when you make your LPA .
A discretionary trusts mean that during the trust period (typically 125 years from the testator's death) the trustees have discretion over how the assets in the trust and their income are distributed amongst the beneficiaries. The trustees would be guided by a letter left by the testator expressing his wishes
The effect of severing the joint tenancy is that the property will continue to be held by the parties in their joint names, but instead of the parties owning the property as joint tenants in equal shares, they will own the property as Tenants in Common in equal shares. This can potentially help with sideways disinheritance and long-term care costs.
An advance directive is a legal document that explains how you want medical decisions about you to be made if you cannot make the decisions yourself.
We aim to look at several ways to manage or reduce an Inheritance Tax bill, from using your various allowances to making gifts and setting up life insurance to cover the bill.
If you have the money to pay for a funeral plan now, it may be a good option for you. A big benefit of paying for your funeral now is that if prices do rise in future, your funeral plan is protected against inflation. For example, you buy a funeral plan costing £3,000 today, but don't die for another 10 years.
